AKERMAN'S JULIE SNEED RECEIVES 2014 GEORGE C. CARR MEMORIAL AWARD
Julie Sneed, a partner with Akerman's Consumer Finance Litigation & Compliance Practice Group in Tampa, was selected as the recipient of the 2014 George C. Carr Memorial Award, the highest award by the Tampa Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. Sneed was presented with the award by the Honorable Chris W. Altenbernd, Judge of the Second District Court of Appeal on February 26 at a reception at The Tampa Club.

The award, named after United States District Court Chief Judge George C. Carr, recognizes excellence in federal practice and distinguished service to the Federal Bar Association. It is presented annually to a lawyer who exemplifies Judge Carr's characteristics of common sense, integrity, and service, as well as a lawyer who has made significant contributions to the Federal Bar Association.

"Julie demonstrates the values and ideals of the late Chief Judge Carr, and exemplifies Akerman's deep commitment to serve as effective allies to our clients and the community," said William Heller, chair of Akerman's national Consumer Finance & Litigation Practice Group. "Julie has made exceptional contributions to the legal community and always performs with the utmost professionalism, diligence and collegiality, and as an advocate for our clients."

Sneed has a long history with the Federal Bar Association. As past president of the Tampa Bay Chapter, she instituted the organization's mentoring program, which provides participating members an opportunity to form mutually beneficial relationships that foster professional growth and career development. She is an active member of many other professional law-related organizations nationwide and throughout the state of Florida, and has served among the board of directors of various committees and subcommittees within the American Bar Association, The Florida Bar, the Hillsborough County Bar Foundation, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, and Hillsborough Association for Women Lawyers, and others.

Sneed focuses her practice on the representation of mortgage loan originators, servicers, and investors in class and individual lawsuits. She has extensive experience handling complex litigation, including class actions, in state and federal courts throughout Florida. She has been recognized by Super Lawyers and ranked in the top 2% of lawyers practicing in her field byFlorida Trend.
