ATLANTA BAR ASSOCIATION HONORS BEN WEINBERG AT LEADERSHIP AWARDS LUNCHEON
The Atlanta Bar Association recently honored Weinberg, Wheeler, Hudgins, Gunn & Dial, LLC (“WWHGD”) retired partner Ben L. Weinberg, Jr. at its Leadership Awards luncheon on October 17. The Leadership Award is presented to members of the Atlanta Bar who “inspire by their example, challenge by their deeds, and remind us all of our debt to our profession and our community.”
Mr. Weinberg was an active participant in the legal community in Atlanta during his notable 54 years of practicing law. He served as President of the Atlanta Bar Association from 1969 – 1970, as a member of the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Georgia for seventeen years and as a member of numerous legal organizations, including the American College of Trial Lawyers.
During his esteemed legal career, he also served on the Board of Visitors for the University of Georgia law school and taught at the Emory University Law School for several years as an Adjunct Professor.
Mr. Weinberg has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Professionalism Award of the Atlanta Bar Association, the Tradition of Excellence Award of the General Practice and Trial Section of the State Bar of Georgia. He was listed in The Best Attorneys in America from its initial publication until his retirement. He was also listed in Atlanta Magazine as a “Super Lawyer” from the first such listing until his retirement.
In his remarks, Mr. Weinberg spoke of the role that the rule of law has played in making the United States a great nation. “America has since its inception stood as a beacon of freedom’s light shining for over two centuries, giving hope to humanity’s millions,” said Weinberg. “Here we have achieved a participatory governing process at the local, county, state and national level with a degree of openness never before attained.” Yet he also reminded the audience that, “it is our duty to participate directly or indirectly in our own governance.”
